Tinsley

January 25, 2009 12:10 pm

Did we just give up hope on getting rid of Tinsley or did we just kind of forget about him. There's got to be something out there that we could get rid of tinsley for, money, draft picks, a big man. Something. The Pacers are just a few pieces away from being a contender. It seems almost every game we play we lose in the last seconds, or just let it slip away. I feel good about the second half of the season. Dunleavey's getting in the swing of things. But we got to find somthing for Tinsley.

WHAT A GAME!!!

January 9, 2009 2:21 pm

The final shot the other night by Grainger might be kick in the a** that the Pacers needed. I think that they are playing alot better together but they just can't finish that last 3 to 4 min. of the game. There have been alot of close games against good opponents lately. Tonight will be a great test against  the Lakers. They are not where I would like them to be but they aren't getting arrested and they are not involved with drive byes this year. Already a better year!

Trade Ideas for our Pacers

November 29, 2008 11:28 am

The Pacers need to make some kind of roster move.  Anything.  We are a soft basketball team that has stored all kinds of dead wood in our doghouse (Maceo Baston, Josh McRoberts, Travis Diener, and Jamaal Tinsley).  It would be nice if we could lose AT LEAST one of our bad contracts (Tinsley or Murphy) sometime this year.  Some trade ideas for us:

  1. Tinsley to Dallas for Jerry Stackhouse - Both players are stuck on their respective teams' inactive roster.  With Mike Dunleavy's status still uncertain, Stackhouse would be a big help to us.  The Mavs have shown interest in Marbury, so maybe they would take on Tinsley.
  2. Troy Murphy to Orlando for Tony Battie and Brian Cook - Both Battie and Cook have two years left on their contracts.  Murphy has 3 on his and could make for nice insurance for Orlando if they lose Turkoglu to free agency.
  3. Tinsley to Orlando for Bian Cook and a choice of either J.J. Redick or Keith Bogans - Orlando is in search of another PG, and Cook has said that he isn't happy there.
  4. Tinsley to Orlando for Tony Battie - I doubt that they'd do this, because Battie has given them depth up front.  If it somehow did happen, it would mean that Rasho Nesterovic definitely won't return to the Pacers in 09-10.
  5. Marquis Daniels to Dallas for Jerry Stackhouse - Daniels just scares me at times.  He has a $7.3 million team option for 09-10, and is playing over his head right now.  I can't imagine why that would be (LOL).  Plus, add in the fact that our current starting frontcourt (Ford and Daniels) has no 3-point range.
  6. Murphy to Cleveland for Wally Szczerbiak - I'm crossing my fingers on this one.  Considering that Cleveland will still be over the cap next season even with their current expiring contract, maybe they'd take on Murphy.  The Cavs lack frontcourt scoring, and Murphy would be a fine fit next to LeBron with his outside shooting.  Szczerbiak's contract expires at the end of this season.

A Trade the Pacers Need to Make

September 16, 2008 3:09 pm

It doesn't appear that Golden State is interested in a deal invloving Al Harrington and Jamaal Tinsley, becuae when there's no smoke, there probably isn't a fire.  So, I have come up with a deal for the Pacers if we run out of options:

Pacers get: Jared Jeffries and a 2010 2nd round pick

Knicks get: Jamaal Tinsley

Again, Larry, getting value for Tinsley shouldn't be the priority.  Just getting him out without taking an outrageous contract IS.  There is absolutely no reason why New York wouldn't do that trade.  Seeing that they are less than thrilled with Stephon Marbury, they need help at PG.  Tinsley and Jeffries have very similar contracts, and Tinsley is a much better player than Jeffries when healthy.  From the Pacers perspective, Jefffries provides little to no offense, but he is a decent defender who play both foward positions, and we need bodies at PF.

Thoughts?

Looking back at the 05-06 season

September 2, 2008 5:23 pm

In early December of 2005, the Pacers made the decision to trade Ron Artest.  Then, they put him on the inactive list until a trade was made.  However, we kept him on the inactive list for 40 DAYS until we actaully made the trade.  40 days!!!  Rumor had it that half the teams in the league were interested in Artest, so a deal could have easily been made sooner, but no, Larry Bird and Donnie Walsh just waited, with our team struggling in the process.  Regardless of what happened, there was definitely some laziness by Pacers management.  Once we finally traded Artest, we got Peja Stojakovic in return, who clearly took tips from Jamaal Tinsley on how to deal with injuries, in that he refused to play in big games.

As a Pacers fan, that 05-06 season was the most frustrating one for me (the Detroit fight season of 04-05 was a close second), as our team always had some BS excuse to not win games, and after many experts predicted us to compete for a title prior to the season, we limped to a .500 record and barely made the Playoffs.

Now at the moment, we are facing a similar situation with Jamaal Tinsley, who has no place on our roster, and has outstayed his welcome here even if he did.  We should be trading him for almost anything (I'd trade him for Jerome James), but no Larry Bird seems to be waiting to get good value for him.  Now, since nobody wants to trade their goods for Tinsley, Bird will likely put him on the inactive list this season until a trade is made.  That will increase his value, now wouldn't it, Larry (LOL!)?
